William Kentridge – If We Ever Get to Heaven

If We Ever Get to Heaven , an exhibition of the work of the famous South African artist William Kentridge (Johannesburg, 1955). Kentridge was known for his exceptional animated films, charcoal drawings and installations. He also works as an opera and theater director. It is the first time that place such a comprehensive exhibition with multiple installations of Kentridge in the Netherlands.

Specially developed for EYE Kentridge More Sweetly play the Dance, a 45 meter long frieze of moving images. In addition to this new work EYE still shows a number of other works of William Kentridge, including special film installation on eight screens  I Am Not Me, the Horse Is Not Mine  from 2008, based on the short story  The Nose by the Russian writer Nikolai Gogol in 1836 . also, Other Faces to see (2011), the tenth and most recent work from the series Drawings for Projection (1989-2011).

An important and recurring theme in the work of Kentridge is fraught past of his native South Africa. Often using drawn and again weggegomde animations and simple pre-cinema techniques Kentridge know this conflict in shaping its complexity, and he sketches a world of social inequality.
